In the first part of this article “Part 1“, we detailed the filming locations of several popular dramas, but here, we have compiled some of the most famous shooting spots that welcomed numerous dramas.
Petite France is like a slice of Europe in Korea with French-style buildings and the romantic vibe of the place makes it the perfect spot for dramas filming. It’s here than Cheon Song-yi and Do Min-joon of You Who Came From The Stars (별에서 온 그대) (SBS, 2013-14) share their first kiss after he uses his telekinetic powers to make her fly towards him. It’s also the place where Go-Ho goes on her first date with Kang Tae-ho in The Starry Night (고호의 별이 빛나는 밤에) (SBS, 2016)
Nami Island is the most famous isle of Korea and is beautiful whatever season it is. The gorgeous scenery of this place made it a popular filming location. The island is Kang Jun-sang and Jung Yoo-jin’s secret spot in Winter Sonata (겨울 연가/겨울연가) (KBS2, 2002-03) where they hold hands for the first time and share their first kiss. Seoullo 7017 is known as a perfect date spot for real-life couples in Seoul, so it’s no wonder that it was used as a drama filming location as well. It’s there that Jang Sun-gyeol and Gil O-sol of Clean With Passion For Now (일단 뜨겁게 청소하라) (JTBC, 2018-19) indirectly confess their love to each other by reading slogans of a signboard sitting in this Sky Garden. Less romantic, but it is also the place where Choi Ae-ra from Fight For My Way (쌈 마이웨이) (KBS2, 2017) receives shoes as a gift from Park Moo-bin, but the sneakers are actually way too small for her and she wonders if she should really force herself to wear them. N Seoul Tower is quite a romantic place as you can seal your love with your partner by putting a lock on one of the handrails around the Tower. It comes as no surprise it is also a famous drama shooting spot. Among the many, many dramas filmed here, there is the iconic Boys Over Flowers (꽃보다 남자) (KBS2, 2009) where Goo Jun-pyo and Geum Jan-di get stuck in the Namsan Cable Car during their date. In Terius Behind Me (내 뒤에 테리우스) (MBC, 2018) Kim Bon celebrates his successful missions by drinking a mojito at the feet of Namsan Tower. With its LED Rose Garden and its unique architecture, Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) has a trendy vibe that makes the area perfect for filming dramas. It is the place where Kim Hye-jin and Ji Sung-joon are supposed to meet up after not seeing each other for years in She Was Pretty (그녀는 예뻤다) (MBC, 2015), but he ends up not recognizing her. In Are you Human? (너도 인간이니) (KBS2, 2018) robot Nam Shin III secretly replaces the real Nam Shin for a big presentation at one of the venues in DDP. E-World is a theme park located in Daegu that features multiple rides, waterfall, and other leisure facilities. In Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo (역도요정 김복주) (MBC, 2016-17) Jung Joon-hyung plans to take Kim Bok-joo on a date there, but their friends end up tagging along. It is also the date spot of Han Jae-yi and Chae Do-jin in Come and Hug Me (이리와 안아줘) (MBC, 2018).
Another famous amusement park for dramas is Everland. It was featured in What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim (김비서가 왜 그럴까) (tvN, 2018) when Lee Young-joon does multiple grand gestures to win the heart of Kim Mi-so. It is also the place where Oh Ri-jin and Cha Do-hyun of Kill Me, Heal Me (킬미, 힐미) (MBC, 2015) share their first kiss. Pocheon Herb Island is a lovely village located in Gyeonggi-go, where locals grow numerous plants and herbs. The streets are filled with green and flowers, making it the perfect location for Kim Young-Ho to propose to Kang Joo-Eun in Oh My Venus (오 마이 비너스) (KBS2, 2015-16). It is also the location of the campsite where Cindy has to sleep in a tent after Baek Seung Chan’s challenges in the drama The Producers (프로듀사) (KBS, 2015). Haneul Park, also called Sky Park, is a former landfill that was transformed into a beautiful ecological park. It’s Park Do-kyung’s favorite hideout place, and Oh Hae-young follows him there in episode 4 of Another Miss Oh (또! 오해영) (tvN, 2016). Whereas in Introverted Boss (내성적인 보스) (tvN, 2017), Eun Hwan-ki and Chae Ro-woon come here to practice public speaking in episode 10. The cinema CGV in Myeongdong has a library filled with books on various movies and people can come read, discuss and share their love of cinema. The place appears as a venue in several episodes of Suits (슈츠) (KBS2, 2018): Go Yeon-woo has his mock trials here, Ham Ki-taek announces he can reintegrate the company in this room and they have their trial against Choi Kang-seok there. In You Drive Me Crazy! (미치겠다, 너땜에!) (MBC, 2018), Kim Rae-wan comes to watch Han Eun-seong translates for a French director in this venue.
Gyeongui Line Forest Park, also called Yeon-tral Park due to its similarities with New York’s Central Park, appeared in many, many dramas. In I’m Not A Robot (로봇이 아니야) (MBC, 2017-18), the park was used as a filming location for several episodes, but most notably it is the place where Ji-ah and Min-kyu share their first kiss. It is also the date spot of Yoon Ji-ho and Nam Se-hee in episode 12 of Because This Is My First Life (이번 생은 처음이라) (tvN, 2017).
Baekje Cultural Land recreated the architecture and buildings of the Baekje Period (from 18 BC to 660 AD). It was the main filming site of Scarlet Heart Ryeo (달의 연인 – 보보경심 려) (SBS, 2016) and of Moonlight Drawn by Clouds (구르미 그린 달빛) (KBS2, 2016) making the beautiful backdrops’ of both dramas filled with a trace of Baekje culture and historical sceneries. Gyeongbokgung Palace is the main palace of Seoul, and its architecture and scenery are absolutely breathtaking, so it is no wonder that it is used as a background for dramas so often. In Mother of Mine (세상에서 제일 예쁜 내 딸) (KBS2, 2019), it can be seen while Kang Mi-hye is walking along the walls of the palace in episode 4. It is also in episode 4 of My Sassy Girl (엽기적인 그녀) (SBS, 2017) that Gyeonbokgung Palace was used as a filming location when Princess Hyemyeong encounters Gyun Woo while she was on a stroll in the gardens. Apgujeong-ro connects Apgujeong and Cheongdam, two neighborhoods in the Gangnam District. The street is known as Seoul’s fashion street; filled with luxury shops and department stores, it is there that some rich protagonists in K-dramas come to do their shopping. Lee Yoo-chan of Rich Man (리치맨) (MBN, Dramax, 2018) brings Kim Bo-ra to relook her before a business meeting. It is also in one of the stores of this street that Jung-seum encounters Hoon-nam in episode 6 of The Undateables (훈남정음) (SBS, 2018) before he saves her from falling down the stairs.
LeHoi is a Vietnamese Restaurant located in famous Seoul’s neighborhood of Itaewon, easily recognizable with its bright yellow walls and its wood fences. In Strongest Deliveryman (최강 배달꾼) (KBS2, 2017), an intoxicated Lee Dan-ah asks Choi Gang-soo if she wants to date him for 230 days, right in front of this restaurant, in the seventh episode. On the Way to the Airport (공항 가는 길) (KBS2, 2016), the building is a bar owned by Seo Do-woo’s good friend, and Choi Soo-ah goes there regularly as her office is upstairs.
