Bamdokkaebi Night Market started last October 2015. It is a new type cultural festival that combines foodtrucks, handmade products and interesting performances. ‘Bam’ means Night in Korean, ‘dokkaebi’ means Goblin. Just like a goblin that appears in the night and disappears in the day, the Seoul Bamdokkaebi Night Market operates during nighttime every Friday and Saturday at the respective locations. The night markets, each with their own distinctive concept, can be found at four different locations – Yeouido, Dongdaemun Design Plaza, Cheonggye Plaza and Mokdong Stadium. Each market composed with Meokgeori(Food Truck Street), Salgeori(Shopping Street), Bolgeori(Performance Street), Swilgeori(Rest Area).

As many characterful sellers participate in the market, you can enjoy cocktail, Korean, Mexican, American, Chinese food and desserts here. It is a rare chance to experience diverse foods from around the world, and it is a treat for your eyes, as well as your taste. Discover captivating foods that embody design sense and food philosophy of young chefs.

Salgeori(Shopping Street) & Bolgeori(Performance Street)

With culture performances held against the backdrop of the beautiful nightscape and various sights to see together with your friends or loved ones. The market at night is fulled with interesting things to see. You can watch colorful performances (traditional, modern, busking, guerilla preformances) held on a special stage, as well as you can buy handmade items that reflect the personal touch of each artist. Full of products rich in culture and personality that embody the characteristics of diverse counties handicrafts. A kind of item that cannot be found anywhere else in the world.

4 different Night Markets

4 different night markets with their own distinctive concept. Above characters describe the characteristics of each market.

 

  1. Yeouido Hangang Park

Hours : Every Friday and Saturday, 18:00 to 23:00 (March to October)

Directions : Subway Line 5, Yeouinaru Station, Exit 2 (walk approx. 600 meters)

 

At Yeouido Hangang Park, where the first night market is hosted with the theme of “one-night world tour”, you will be able to find international food, handmade items, and also traditional performances and shows. The night market opens just next to Han river, so you can enjoy the beautiful nightscape and delicious food here! But also remember, this is the most crowded market!

 

  1. DDP (Dongdaemun Design Plaza)

Hours : Every Friday and Saturday, 19:00 to 24:00 (June to October)

Directions : Subway Exit 1, Dongdaemun History&Culture Park Station, Lines 2, 4
and 5 toward Shindang Station and Chungmu Art Hall
Dongdaemun Design Plaza Market focuses on adolescents in their 20s, with young startups selling their products, fashion shows and also b-boy performances. DDP is a blend of traditional buildings, relics and cutting-edge modern multicultural facilities with LED rose garden, and also, the white rose garden is a suitable place for photo shoots.

 

  1. Mokdong Stadium

Hours : Every Friday and Saturday, 17:00 to 22:00 (July to October)

Directions : Subway 700 meters from Exit 3 or 4, Omokgyo Station, Line 5

 

A leisure sports theme can be seen at the night market that opens at Mokdong Stadium, so visitors can find a variety of sports or camping related products at the market here. The scale of market is not that big as the others, but if you don’t like bustling it is good to visit here.

 

  1. Cheonggye Plaza

Hours : September 9, 10, and 11 , October 21, 22, and 23, 18:00 to 23:00

Directions : Subway Exit 5, Gwanghwamun Station, Line 5
300 meters from Exit 4, City Hall Station, Lines 1 and 2

 

The night market at Cheonggye Plaza will be revolving around special seasons including Family Day in May and even during Thanksgiving Day around September to October. Cheonggyecheon Stream passes close to Deoksugung Palace, Seoul Plaza, the Sejong Center, Insa-dong Street, Changdeokgung Palace, and also Changgyeonggung Palace. So if you’re going to look around those places, It’s a must to visit the night market.
