You are not dreaming! This beautiful landscape belongs to South Korea.

What is Gimje Horizon festival?

Held from late September to early October every year since 1999, the Gimje Horizon Festival has been created to introduce the rice harvest and natural beauty of Gimje. Situated in the southwestern part of Korea in Jeollabuk-do, the area abounds of flat fields and rice paddies. Hence the city became the largest rice producer in the country. The area is full of natural landscapes and agricultural heritage well preserved since years.

Called the region where the sky meets the ground, it has been called the festival of the horizon or “ jipyeongseon.” Farming has always been an important industry in Korea. The festival goal is to introduce a variety of events to make its participants discover more about the rooted rice culture of the region. Over there, people can experience many events related to the agricultural environment surrounding the area.

When is it and what can you do there?

Since its opening, the event received good feedback and was even selected as one of Korea’s five best festivals for five years straight. This year held from 29/9 to 3/10.  It will last for five days, and like every year, will offer a broad range of activities.  Like traditional percussion quartet contest, rural landscape drawing contest, kite flying celebratory performances, street parade, Korean wrestling, and even traditional wedding.

You can also go and visit Korea’s oldest manmade reservoir and also enjoy the sightseeing of the huge pair of dragons made of steel cables and bamboo stalks. Last but not least you can take a stroll around Geumsansa Temple, housing national treasures or the Manghaesa temple, offering a great view of the Simpo port and the sunset horizon.

Currently, Gimje City is organizing other various festivals throughout the year.
