Did you know that Bullfighting was part of Korean culture?
It first started years ago as a way of passing time for the herdsmen, but it quickly became a bigger event to provide entertainment to the villagers and show off a household or village’s power.
Unlike Spanish bullfighting, the duels in Korea don’t involve any matador or blood. Here two bulls fight each other by locking horns, bumping heads, pushing or flank attacking and the winner is designated when one of them decide to surrender. While a fight generally lasts around 2-3 minutes, it can take much longer with vigorous and stubborn bulls, or less if one of them gets intimidated right from the start!
As the country went through modernization this tradition slowly disappeared, but it is still kept alive in the city of, where bullfights are held every weekend as well as the popular Bullfighting Festival around April of every year.
